July was a pivotal change for my creative practice. I upgraded from the second bedroom apartment home art studio to a space in downtown Raleigh!
As a result of this shift, much of July focused on sanding, painting, cleaning, moving, and getting acclimated to this new space. Understandably my creative process is shifting as well. Early morning painting time is being replaced with evening sessions. Logistically this will be an ever evolving process as I find the new balance between my day job, studio time, and the healthy lifestyle I am purposefully prioritizing.
From an exposure stand point, I am also eager to see how “the eyes” on my work will effect my process, if at all. As fellow artists, admin workers, and scheduled visitors pass by the space, how will I react? How will knowing that my creative sanctuary is on display for the world to see change how I relate to the space? Are these changes inevitable, empowering, or paralyzing? Only time will tell!
But as July wraps up, I can happily say this space already feels like home. Can you tell which daily drawings were moving and hanging days in the studio?
