Abstract Artist | Seattle, WA
Artist Bio:
I was born and raised in Indonesia, where I spent my childhood exploring the bustling city of Jakarta, the rustic backwoods of Java island, and later, the refreshing atmosphere of Seattle. As a teenager, I drew inspiration for my artwork from the likes of Salvador Dalí, Mr. Tino Sidin (an Indonesian artist cartoonist), and various design publications from around the world.
My passion for art and design led me to immigrate to the United States, where I pursued my studies in graphic design and art in Seattle and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. I now reside in Seattle, where I continue to practice my craft.
My artwork has been featured in gallery exhibitions, various art courses as a guest speaker, and numerous private collections across the United States, Australia, and Asia. Additionally, my paintings and digital murals can be found in several locations throughout Amazon.com's headquarters in Seattle's South Lake Union campus.
In 2021, I established The Spice Art Club, an art mentorship program designed to provide a supportive and encouraging environment for like-minded artists to grow and develop their skills. It serves as a safe space that transforms self-doubt into confidence through art practice.
Artist Statement:
Creating art for me is a process of introspection. It's a journey of self-discovery that begins with a question and culminates in a narrative - an abstraction of life itself. Through my work, I aim to convey the journey rather than just the destination, using materials, colors, and textures to create phrases and chapters that tell a story.
Driven by my passion for food and a fascination with visual language, I explore the interplay of color, texture, and form, often drawing inspiration from the culinary world. Like a chef blending different ingredients to create a unique dish, I mix and arrange materials, colors, forms, and compositions to create contrasts and harmonies that evoke a sense of playfulness and lightness.
But my art is not just about aesthetics. It is also a statement about the importance of embracing diversity and overcoming prejudice. Through my work, I invite viewers to see food as a metaphor for life, where each ingredient represents a different person, unique in their own way, yet contributing to the overall harmony of the dish.
Ultimately, my message is simple: we may be different, but we are also the same, and it is our differences that make life interesting and beautiful.
