What does it mean to be an artist?
On today’s episode we talk to Peter Marin, a Raleigh based artist, educator and art services professional. We talk about his early childhood creative influences that affect the work he makes today, how artists know when their artwork is complete, how to move from one painting to the next, and how teaching has allowed him to strengthen his personal creative practice.

Artist Biography:
Peter Marín was born and raised in Mexico City. He has lived in San Francisco, Oakland, Madrid, New York City, and Raleigh, NC. Marin has been painting for 30 years, and exhibits both nationally and internationally. His work is part of public and private collections and foundations including Hunter College, United Way, Boys and Girls Club, The City of Raleigh and SAS. Marin received the Latino Diamante Award 2019 for Arts and Culture, given by Diamante, Inc, North Carolina’s first Latino arts organization. Marín has been painting for 31 years. He is the owner of Peter Marin Artworks and is represented by Charlotte Russell Contemporary

Artist Statement:
Marín’s abstract painting references architecture, landscape, sacred geometry, identity and uses the languages of color and structure. Working outside the expected Latino narrative serves to amplify the notion that Latino artists work in diverse idioms. Marin’s works to further the discussion on abstraction, moving it from a formalist, reductivist proposal to a more richly layered vision rendering his personal sensibility.
