Whether in your art business or in the art studio, challenging yourself with goals for the year that push you out of your comfort zone are vital for your creative evolution. In today’s episode we talk about how (and why) you should set goals for yourself in the art studio as well as what our individual creative goals are for 2022!

2022 Creative Evolution

Refining your creative skills is vital as a professional artist inorder to keep your work progressing further and to keep up with the rising demand of your creative work! There are many ways to do this but one big way to stay motivated may include setting annual goals for your creative work.

This may include challenging yourself to…

  • Explore a new medium

  • Study and master a new technique

  • Change the scale of the work you typically work in (ie. get bigger or smaller)

  • Create a cohesive series in preparation for a solo exhibition opportunity

  • Create artwork that covers a wider range of price points

  • …and more!

Goals are different for everyone but the best way to look forward is to look back, evaluate your wins, establish where you are, and then reassess!

If you are looking to reignite your creative spark after a break

  • Set goals for your work!

  • Set your own timelines no matter if you have a set opportunity in place (Ex. Create a solo exhibition of 15 pieces by X date)

  • Join a challenge, existing or create your own. (Ex. Daily drawings)

  • Set time to play and experiment on sketchbooks or canvases - focus on the joy of the process, not the outcome.

  • Spend contemplative time in nature - what is your work about? What are you trying to communicate? Why do you make art?
