Establish where you are so you can take action toward where you want to go!
As a career minded artist, you need to establish where you are so you can take action toward where you want to go! On today’s episode we share a preview of a Level Up Artist Community exclusive resource, the Creative Business Path. This resource is helpful no matter what stage of your art career you are in and will provide clarity on what you need to do to Level Up your art business!
What is the Creative Business Path?
The Creative Business Path is a PDF resource that we made for Level Up Artist Community but for our 30th episode of the Art Studio Insights Podcast we want to give our listeners a preview version of this resource because we think it is SO important
As a career minded artist, in order to establish where your goals are you need to determine where you are first. Creative careers branch out in many different directions so this PDF can be used to help you identify what stage of your art career you are in, and the action steps that will help you level up!
This resource is helpful no matter what stage of your art career you are in:
Enthusiast/Hobbyist
Emerging
Intermediate
Established
Boss Level!
Within LUA we take a deep dive into each of these levels. We also include a checklist of characteristics for each level in order to truly identify where you are:
Your Process
Sustainability
Business
Marketing and Technology
Financial
There are 5 Levels on the Creative Business Path
Enthusiast/Hobbyist: You are experimenting with different mediums and styles, curious about selling art
Emerging: You have sold a few pieces, been in a few exhibitions, trying to narrow down your style
Intermediate: Your sales are starting to become consistent, you have a cohesive body of work
Established: You have multiple income streams, you are implementing new business strategies
Boss Level: You are delegating tasks, have solo shows, consistent sales, a sizable audience & mailing list
It is important to break it down to each of these levels because you may be at different levels for each category. For example, your process and artwork may be at the intermediate level (level 3), but your business structure may be inconsistent and only at the hobbyist level (level 1).
As a career minded creative, your goal is to have each of these 5 categories at (or about the same) growth level. You can juggle multiple levels BUT with time, your lowest level will hold you back. For example, if your artwork and process are at a level 3, but your business and financial structure are still stuck at a level 1, your sales and business growth aren’t scalable and you will only be able to grow SO far. So the solution would be to (1) focus on areas of improvement or (2) find a business partner or assistant who help you with it
Ultimately, by establishing where you are you will be able to determine the action items needed to help you Level Up!
