“What does your vision look like? Define it. Make it uniquely yours. Own it.”
-I’d Rather Be In The Art Studio, Alyson Stanfield
Success looks different for everyone. From exhibitions and the number of paintings created to recognize milestones and your online presence, no creative career is the same as another. In today’s episode, we explore 10 ways in which creatives define their success.
How do you define success?
Production of Art (number of artworks you create each month/year or number of hours you spend in the studio each week)
Mastery of a medium
Scheduling exhibition or teaching venues
Improving your home, studio, and environment
Maintaining excellent health
Seeing your artwork published
Tracking increased visits to your website or blog, subscribers to your newsletter, and connections on social media
Increasing sales of your art, book, or product
Receiving grants and residencies
Obtaining commissions
So once you sit down and crystalize how you define success...what do you do?
Pick 3-4 success metrics
These will become your guiding compass.
When opportunities arise, check if it’s in alignment with your definitions of success.
They can still be pursued, but not at the expense of opportunities that are better aligned.
When in doubt, remember…
“Actively Choose the future you are creating” because after all this is YOUR art business and mission is to make it what YOU want it to be!
