January - September 2020
Lucky Tree Coffeehouse and Art Gallery is a magical space of creativity located in Raleigh, NC. From yummy drinks, delicious snacks, warm and welcoming staff who feel like friends, and the regularly scheduled music events - this space makes everyone feel welcome.
The eclectic collection of seats and tables arranged in the space leaves room for everyone to find a home. Even if the space were empty, the artwork hung salon style on the walls brings life and joy into each and every corner. In January 2020 I had the pleasure of being added to this magical collection of artists with some of the newest works from my Shadows Of Influence series.
As my first public display of art in North Carolina, and my first exhibition since showing in Virginia in 2015, this space and group of work was a pivotal point for me and the momentum of my new developing series!
It was an incredible feeling to see these works in a new environment and next to other extremely talented local artists. In the beginning of it’s display I would often go “undercover”, grab a cold brew coffee, post up at a table nearby with a good book and watch people react and interact with the work. I don’t think that experience will ever get old.
Watching others react to something you have made is always a surreal moment.
What once only existed in my mind, manifested into a creation that only my home studio saw. But now, these pieces are out there and exposed to the world. No matter if people hate them or love them, the fact that these time capsules of my existence make an impression on other people means that my role as an artist is fulfilled.
Hopefully this is the first of many displays in the Triangle. But, as the first space in North Carolina to exhibit my work, Lucky Tree will always be a special place me.
