To keep on trend with 2020 changes, I switched day jobs at the beginning of the month. Looking forward it will be interesting to see how and if that will change the types of pieces I create because up until this point daily contact with a CO2 laser engraver and UV printer undoubtedly influenced my creative visions.
As a result, taking a break from the technology I have been immersed in for the past 4 years, I chose to take December to dive into a more traditional studio practice: acrylic paint on panel.
Earlier this year, a local co-work space reached out to me and inquired about a solo display in their office space. Of course I graciously accepted this opportunity! Although I had minimal inventory on hand, I thought this would be the perfect time to revisiting past motifs, and challenge myself to produce a collection without technology. It was certainly an adjustment at first, however, disconnecting from the screen and getting covered in paint on a regular basis was definitely what my soul needed this month.
With COVID still in full swing, not traveling for the holidays was tough on me emotionally. But having this series to as a distraction to focus my energy on, and give my time purpose, made it a lot more manageable.
As this series dominated my studio time (145+hours in December), the daily drawing series fell to the way side. Some sketches are planning the larger works while others are simple squares because after several hours of painting, that was all that was left in my brain.
